Previously would have had no knowledge about the Mage, Mage's job could be taken as an Elf human race, but different at the time of job changes that will be taken later.
Mage has the ability in sorcery. Their sorcery variety, and also supports destroying type.
Destroy?
By Job changes Sorcorer or Monk and many more.
This type is usually used when the Mage job hunt (killing monsters) alone call it a solo.
Support?
Support was used for the type of healer, like Cleric or Priest, and many more.

Then what is the difference between Job Human Mage races and Job Mage Elf race?
Human race in general have more life or more commonly called HP.
And to an Elf race they have more MP.
And a witch out more MP because their stance is the most long-distance attacks.
But,,, at Luna online is also not forced to be a race of humans or elves.
Depending on what you want to be later when change a job.
And remember!
There are changes from race Mage Job Human that can not be taken by Elf Race, and also the opposite.

1. Mage PvP = Mage - Wizard - Monk - Inquerer - Soul Arbitrators - Dark Archon
*Monk can only be for the Human race
Usually this Job for TB (Resistant Body)
2. Healer = Mage - Cleric - Priest - Bishop - Cardinal
It's a special single fighter, mage Healer if it is usually used for support in the party.
